History & Heritage

Once one of eleven alehouses in Orford, The Jolly Sailor has been welcoming travellers for centuries. The inn’s oak timbers are said to include wood from Spanish Armada ships wrecked along the coast, earning it the nickname “Armada Oak”.

Still standing close to the quay where sailors once moored, it remains part of the village’s story – a meeting place, a landmark and a true restaurant Orford, Suffolk can be proud of.

Gather & Celebrate

We love welcoming groups and gatherings of all kinds. From small get-togethers in The Snug to larger celebrations in The Thames Room or Garden Room, there’s space for everyone to feel at home. Please pre-book for parties of ten or more to help our kitchen and ensure the smoothest service for all guests.
