The Jolly Sailor - Orford

Steeped in History

Orford was a bustling and important location, particularly from the 12th to the 17th Century. In the 1500s, there were no less than 11 Ale houses, with one of the more important being the Jolly Sailor.

The Jolly Sailor once stood on a causeway leading to the quay with a tidal harbour immediately opposite, where the large Orford Car Park is now.

Testimonials

Traditional relaxed pub atmosphere, great food and service. Four of us went for a meal as we were recommended by the owner of the AirB&B that we were staying in. We had excellent service and fabulous food. A great selection of Ales washed it all down nicely.

Armada Oak!

The oak timbers that boats and ships moored up to are still immediately below the road side curb! It is rumoured that some of the oak used in the Jolly Sailor is Spanish oak from wrecked Armada war ships!

Our Mission

The Jolly Sailor mission is to be what it has always been, the centre of the Orford Community a delicious Inn for the traveller and home from home for those staying away.

Large Groups & Parties

We absolutely love large groups and parties, we especially love them when they book and pre-order.

We require a pre-order for any group over 10 people, this helps not only the kitchen, but all of the diners that have booked their table after you!

We have some great spaces for small and larger events including The Snug (up to 8), The Thames Room (for 10+) and in the summer, The Garden Room with its patio doors (for 10+) out onto the terrace. And if you are really confident of the weather, The Summer House in the garden (up to 10).
